PDO (Polydioxanone) barbed sutures represent a major innovation in wound closure technology. Unlike traditional smooth sutures, barbed sutures are equipped with barb structure along their length, which allow them to anchor into tissue without the need for knots. This self-anchoring property provides many advantages, especially in delicate surgical procedures where speed and precision are vital.

PDO as a material is absorbable and biocompatible, meaning it gradually dissolves in the body over time without causing adverse reactions. It is especially known for its strength, flexibility, and predictable absorption profile, making it ideal for internal soft tissue approximation.

Barbed sutures reduce surgical time, minimize tissue trauma, and improve wound approximation. Because they eliminate the need for knots, they also decrease the bulk in sensitive areas. This makes them particularly effective in bariatric, gynecological, urological, orthopedic and aesthetic surgeries, as well as veterinary applications.

KATSAN’s PDO barbed sutures have recently been granted CE certification under MDR 2017/745 regulations, marking a significant milestone in offering reliable and high-quality solutions in modern surgical practice.
